This year our trip to Moon Lake was really short and we didn't stay in the overflow, we stayed in the camp grounds with my parents. No camp trip can start without car troubles and our truck decided it wasn't going this year. We had to borrow my in-laws truck and my parents took 2 of our kids with them. Jared and I had Joshua riding with us on the way to Moon Lake and he talked non-stop. It is funny, when you get a child alone, how much they have to say.
It rained the first night we got up there. Our tent leaked a little until we put a tarp over it. The second day we were able to go up Hell's Canyon, on the 4 wheelers. Bailee decided to ride in my parents buggy with them. We were able to go to the top and a couple of roads before it started raining on us again. As soon as we started putting the 4 wheelers back on the trailer the skies started clearing. It was Joshua's turn to ride back to camp in the buggy and my mom said he sang the whole way. When we got back Sage went fishing with her cousins that were staying in the overflow and Jared and I took Josh and Bailee fishing. Bailee wasn't interested and made designs in the sand instead and Joshua got his line tangled a couple of times before we headed back to camp. We made smore's and talked about Bears around the campfire (that is, Sage kept asking about bears and if they would come to camp). It started raining again but this time it poured on us. The thunder was so loud and this time the rain lasted a good portion of the night. I had a hard time sleeping because I was afraid our tent would get flooded. Sage and Bailee were safe inside my parents trailer and Joshua slept in the tent with me and Jared.
The next morning we packed up and headed back to town. The clean up was more than usual because of the rain.
The next day was the 4th of July and my mom convinced all of us to go to Vernon Days. We headed there later in the afternoon and ate lunch, the kids had relays and fished for prizes in a giant horse trough - everyone just hopped into the trough and was swimming for their prizes. They had live gold fish in the other trough and everyone was catching them to take home. I didn't bring my camera but Sage participated in a whip cream pie eating contest and Bailee did good in the watermelon eating contest. The adults had a tug-o-war and it was the outsiders against the residents and we lost in both the men and women's event, what else do people in Vernon have to do but practice for a tug-o-war :) In between lunch and dinner we took a little drive to Vernon reservoir and stopped at Brooke's house to hold the rabbits (Bailee's request). We stayed for dinner that the town provided with somebody's cow that had been roasting since the night before (talk about fresh beef) and then headed home. It had been a long week and the kids were acting the part so needless to say, bedtime came early and fireworks were not watched this year... there's always next year.
